Where Are Downloaded TikTok Videos Saved? [2026]

You’ve finished your download but don’t know where the file is — this is the most common situation after downloading videos via a browser, as browsers save files in different locations compared to when you save a video directly from the TikTok app.

The table below provides a quick answer. The section further down goes into detail for each device and special cases.

Quick Summary — Where is the file?

DeviceBrowserSave Location
AndroidChrome / DefaultDownload folder in internal storage

iPhoneChromeFiles app → Downloads
iPadSafari / ChromeFiles app → Downloads
WindowsChrome / Edge / FirefoxC:\Users\[Name]\Downloads
MacChrome / FirefoxFinder → Downloads
MacSafariFinder → Downloads (or manual save needed)

Android — Finding files in the Download folder

On Android, videos downloaded from a browser always go into the Download folder in internal storage. The file manager app name and navigation method vary by brand:

Samsung (One UI):

  1. Open My Files (the yellow app with a folder icon).
  2. Select Internal storageDownload folder.
  3. Sort by Date modified to see the newest file at the top.

Alternatively, open GalleryAlbums tab → Download album at the bottom of the list — Samsung automatically brings new videos here.

Xiaomi / Redmi (HyperOS or MIUI):

  1. Open File Manager (the blue folder icon).
  2. Tap the Phone or Internal tab in the bottom bar.
  3. Find the Download folder → sort by newest time.

Oppo / Realme (ColorOS / RealmeUI):

  1. Open File Manager.
  2. Select PhoneDownload.

Vivo (FuntouchOS):

  1. Open Files (default file management app).
  2. Select LocalDownload.

Android uses a Media Scanner system to bring new files into the photo/video library. This process does not happen immediately — it sometimes takes a few minutes, or sometimes requires a device restart to update.

If you see the file in the Download folder but the Gallery hasn’t shown it yet:

  • Fastest way: Restart the device — Media Scanner re-runs on startup.
  • Don’t want to restart: Open the file directly from the File Manager, tap the three dots → Add to Album, or use an app like QuickPic / Simple Gallery instead of the default Gallery — these apps scan files in real-time.

iPhone and iPad — Files are in the Files app, not the Photos app

This is the biggest difference from Android and often causes the most confusion. When downloading videos via Safari or Chrome on iPhone, files do not automatically go into the Photos app — they are in the Files app, in the Downloads folder.

How to find files in the Files app

  1. Open the Files app (the blue folder icon, available on your home screen or in the App Library).
  2. Tap the Browse tab in the bottom bar.
  3. Select On My iPhone (or iCloud Drive if you have configured downloads to iCloud).
  4. Open the Downloads folder — your MP4 video file is here.

Moving videos from the Files app to the Photos app

If you want the video to appear in your Camera Roll for easy sharing or editing:

  1. In the Files app, long-press the video file → select Share.
  2. Or open the video and tap the Share icon (the square with an up arrow) at the bottom corner.
  3. Select Save Video — the video will move to the Photos app immediately.

Note for Safari on Mac

Safari on Mac sometimes opens the video in a new tab instead of downloading it. If this happens:

  1. Right-click the playing video.
  2. Select Save Video As….
  3. Choose the save folder and hit Save.

To avoid this step entirely, use Chrome or Firefox on Mac — these two browsers download files directly without opening a new tab.

Windows — The Downloads folder is the default

On Windows, all popular browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) save downloaded files to the same place by default.

The fastest way to find them:

  1. Press the Windows + E shortcut to open File Explorer.
  2. Look at the left sidebar and select Downloads — it appears right under Desktop.
  3. Sort by Date modified to see the newest file.

Full path: C:\Users\[Username]\Downloads

If using IDM (Internet Download Manager), the file might be in a different folder depending on the IDM configuration. Go to IDM → Options → Save to to see the set folder. See more on why you shouldn’t use IDM when downloading via GọnNhẹDownload in certain cases.

Mac — Downloads in Finder

Chrome and Firefox on Mac:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Press the combination Option (⌥) + Cmd (⌘) + L to directly open the Downloads folder.
  3. Or look at the down arrow icon in the Chrome/Firefox toolbar — click it to see the list of recently downloaded files.

Changing the default save folder

If you want downloaded videos to be saved in a different folder instead of the default Downloads:

Chrome (Windows / Mac / Android): Go to the 3-dot menu → Settings → Downloads → click Change next to “Location” → select a new folder. From the next download, Chrome will save there.

The option “Ask where to save each file before downloading” is also useful if you want to choose a folder for each individual file.

Safari on Mac: Go to Safari → Preferences (⌘ + ,) → General → File download location → select a new folder or choose “Ask for each download.”

Cases where you don’t see the file despite a finished download

Device storage full: When internal storage is below 100–200MB, the browser might report a completed download but actually fail to write the file. Check free space before downloading long or high-quality videos.

Corrupted download file due to network loss: If the network is interrupted midway, the file might exist in the Downloads folder but won’t open — the size will be abnormally small (a few KB instead of several MB to dozens of MB). Delete that file and re-download from the Last 5 Videos section on GọnNhẹDownload.

Using an in-app browser: If you open GọnNhẹDownload via a link from Zalo, Facebook, or Messenger, you’re using that app’s built-in browser — files often save to the app’s temporary folder, not the system Downloads. Open GọnNhẹDownload directly from Chrome or Safari to ensure files go to the correct folder.

iPhone: looking in the wrong place: Many people open the Photos app to find a recently downloaded video but don’t see it. Videos downloaded via a browser always go into the Files app first — perform the “Save Video” step as instructed above to move it to the Photos app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I save videos to an SD card on Android?

Yes. Go to Chrome Settings → Downloads → select SD card as the save location. However, some models (especially Xiaomi HyperOS) do not allow Chrome to write directly to the SD card — in that case, download to internal storage and then use File Manager to move it to the SD card.

Will downloaded videos automatically back up to Google Photos?

Only if you have enabled backup for the Download folder in your Google Photos settings. Go to Google Photos → avatar → Photos settings → Backup & sync → Back up device folders → turn on the Download folder.

Why is the file name not the “TikTok video name” but a strange string of numbers?

GọnNhẹDownload names files based on the TikTok video ID to avoid duplicates when downloading multiple videos. To find them quickly, sort by download time instead of searching by file name.
